Re-Animator: Dawn of the Re-animator (Re-Animator: Dawn of the Re-animator #1)

The Switzerland police arrest Dr. Herbert West for the violent murder of Professor Hans Gruber, but West denies killing his mentor and instead assists he was trying to bring the man back to life. The police don't believe West and take him to jail.

Elsewhere, Dr. Fredrick Sanderson receives the corpse of a recently deceased woman, but before he can do unspeakable things to her, he is called away by a phone call from Erich Metler, his mysterious benefactor.

The next morning in the police station, West is released from custody. It seems Hans' daughter Elena and Dean Willett, came forward and the Elena has informed the authorities that her father did infact have a weak heart and Dean Willett confirmed that was what killed him.

Although they came to West's rescue, Elena still believes West, although not directly the cause of her father's death, his actions quickened the old man's death. Dean Willett, who was always leery of West and Han's experiments is putting West in front other school review board.

The next day, Dean Willett has convened the board, which includes Dr. Sanderson. The board listens to the witness reports of Han's final hours and it looks like they will rule against West and his experiments, thus taking away his funding and force West to return to America where his studies will be stopped.

West tries to plead with Elena, he believes if he can study Han's body he can find out where his serum went wrong, But Elena throws him out, calling him a ghoul.

Elsewhere, Dr. Sanderson meets with Metler's employee, a zombie like mercenary and the pair creep off into the night.

West undaunted, goes to dig up Han's body but finds the night guard mutilated and Han's grave empty.
